The Security Industry Association (SIA) is the leading trade association for global security solution providers. SIA continues to experience significant and sustained growth in membership, along with an increased member awareness of benefits offered through advocacy, standards, learning and professional development, certification, research and various networking activities. SIA serves as a catalyst for growth for over 1,700 member companies and brands operating within the global security industry.
The Director, Member Services, will lead the membership strategy and engagement initiatives aligned with SIA's annual budget and strategic plan. In this role, the Director leads sales efforts including new member recruitment, membership renewals and sponsorship activities. The Director will develop and execute membership and engagement strategies using guidance and input of the Board of Directors, staff leadership, member committees and relevant member stakeholders.
The Director will provide strategic direction, management and oversight of retention and recruitment programs; sponsorship revenues for events and activities; member services, programs, policies and benefits; the membership database; and member satisfaction and engagement scores. In this role, the Director will champion the role of membership across the association and partner with departments to support customer service strategies for all products, initiatives and revenue goals.
Key responsibilities will include:
Setting membership strategy and direction, identifying and designing programs that enhance member value through direct benefits and overall engagement practices and policies, and serving as an internal advisor on membership and member experience.
Managing recruitment and retention, including developing strategies and tools to grow membership while building and supporting a strong membership culture withing the association; leveraging sales management technology platforms to accurately and consistently track recruitment, sales and retention performance; collaborate with the marketing team to execute marketing plans; and leading efforts to retain existing members and developing engagement strategies to strengthen SIA's pool of volunteer leaders.
Providing strategic direction for event sponsorship and actively participating in sales efforts, coordinating sponsorship relationships, and monitoring and reporting sponsorship revenues.
Overseeing and fostering cross-departmental efforts to increase member engagement, including providing membership-related website content and coordinating responses to requests from members and other constituencies.
Developing and managing the association's member database, including refining member engagement scores to improve overall membership value, and managing external vendors and consultants.
Managing the department and sponsorship budgets and leading the Member Services department staff.
The position requirements will include:
Over 10 years of applicable experience in senior marketing, sales and/or membership positions, including a solid commitment and track record of exemplary customer service.
Experience in the security industry is strongly preferred.
Must supervise, manage and implement entire membership acquisition, retention and growth programs, benefits, products and services.
Volunteer management experience, strategic thinking ability and superior communications skills. Ability to recognize and develop leadership skills of volunteers.
Ability to represent self and SIA in a professional manner and exercise the highest level of quality customer service in all member and nonmember interactions.
Must see change as positive, is entrepreneurial and works to build consensus between varied groups and interests.
Demonstrated leadership skills with collegial assertiveness.
Ability to oversee many projects simultaneously and help to ensure completion by stated deadlines.
The ability to translate vision into action for the staff and have a track record in coaching, mentoring, supervising and developing staff.
Budget development and management.
Strong member service orientation and ability to drive consensus.
Commitment to the success of the association.
Proficient in business computer applications.
Some travel is required.
B.A. in marketing field; advanced degree or MBA preferred.
Hybrid work schedule with three workdays in-office at the Silver Spring, Maryland, headquarters each week.
