BOMA International seeks an experienced and strategic Vice President, Advocacy and Building Codes to lead its government affairs, regulatory, and building codes initiatives. This executive-level role requires a dynamic, collaborative leader with deep expertise in legislative advocacy, coalition building, and political engagement. The Vice President serves as BOMA’s chief lobbyist and primary advisor to the President & COO on all legislative and regulatory issues, working collaboratively with our members to shape and execute policies that drive impact for the commercial real estate sector.
This is a high-visibility role requiring a collaborative approach – the Vice President must work seamlessly with members, local associations, policymakers, industry partners, and internal teams to develop and implement effective advocacy strategies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead BOMA’s advocacy efforts at the federal, state, and local levels, ensuring alignment with members’ priorities.
Serve as BOMA’s chief lobbyist, engaging with Congress, federal agencies, the White House, and building code organizations to advance policy objectives.
Support state and local advocacy efforts, working closely with local BOMA associations to enhance their effectiveness.
Lead the development of national building codes policy and support local associations with adoption and implementation.
Oversee and grow BOMAPAC, leading fundraising initiatives and representing BOMA at political events.
Collaborate with the Vice President, Marketing, to communicate BOMA’s advocacy efforts and impact to members, stakeholders, and the media.
Oversee and contribute to BOMA’s advocacy and codes educational programming, including sessions at the Annual Conference and Winter Business Meeting, webinars, and publications.
Recruit, develop, manage, and lead a high performing team to execute BOMA’s advocacy and codes strategy.
Develop and manage BOMA’s advocacy and codes budgets, ensuring financial alignment with strategic objectives.
WHO YOU ARE:
A strategic leader with at least 10 years of experience in issue advocacy at the federal level, including serving as a chief lobbyist, preferably within a trade association or real estate-related organization.
A skilled coalition builder with a track record of engaging diverse stakeholders to advance policy objectives.
A proven team leader with at least 5 years of experience managing staff to achieve legislative and regulatory goals while collaborating at the executive level to drive the association’s strategic vision.
An effective communicator with strong writing and public speaking abilities, capable of clearly articulating the association’s value to members, policymakers, and external audiences.
A relationship-driven leader who leads with empathy, integrity, and a servant leadership mindset.
A collaborative leader who fosters a high-performing team culture while ensuring accountability and results.
A trusted advisor to senior leadership on all legislative, regulatory, and building code matters.
Experience in state and local advocacy, building codes, and PAC leadership is a plus.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires up to 25% travel, including attendance at the BOMA annual convention, executive committee meetings, local association events, and relevant trade shows.
