The American Astronomical Society (AAS), established in 1899, is a major international organization of professional astronomers, astronomy educators, and amateur astronomers. Its membership of approximately 8,000 also includes physicists, geologists, engineers, and others whose interests lie within the broad spectrum of subjects now comprising astronomical sciences. The mission of the AAS is to enhance and share humanity’s scientific understanding of the universe as a diverse and inclusive astronomical community, which it achieves through publishing, meetings, science advocacy, education and outreach, and training and professional development.
Position Overview:
The Meetings and Abstract Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating/managing various aspects of the scientific program content for AAS and AAS-affiliated meetings. The Meetings and Abstract Coordinator will manage the submission process for abstracts for meetings, manage the online and printed publication of the meeting programs, and manage all proposals for meeting sessions. The Meetings and Abstract Coordinator will work as part of the AAS Meeting Services team and will work closely with AAS volunteer leadership to manage scientific meeting content.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary contact with MiraSMART support staff, AAS Vice Presidents (VPs), and volunteer science organizing committees (SOCs).
- Provide support and corporate knowledge to AAS VPs and SOCs during the science program planning process.
- Set up the MiraSMART systems for each AAS and AAS-affiliated meeting.
- Provide oversight of abstract submissions, including providing direct customer support.
- Manage the abstract sorting process by preparing abstracts for sorting, procuring and coordinating volunteer sorting staff, providing training to sorters, and conducting post-sorting abstract processing in MiraSMART.
- Manage the production and updating of online meeting programs and coordinate publication of applicable print meeting programs for all AAS and AAS-affiliated meetings.
- Manage submissions of proposals for meeting sessions (such as special sessions, splinter meetings, workshops, town halls, and meetings-in-a-meeting), including providing direct customer support for submitters].

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year DOE
Schedule: Monday to Friday in the office.
Work Location: Washington, DC in person.
Ability to Relocate: Washington, DC 20006: Relocate before starting work is required.
