AHLA’s Marketing & Communications department tells the story of our association, our members, and the hotel industry. Within this department is a media relations team responsible for getting important information about AHLA to the press and public. The Senior Director, Media Relations will help write press releases, make press connections, and get AHLA executives media coverage.
Responsibilities:
Create a constant drumbeat of media visibility on AHLA’s top priority issues both nationally and locally
Cultivate top-tier reporters from mainstream and trade publications to pitch and place stories
Monitor press, arrange interviews, and draft press and briefing materials
Fulfill media requests
Assist in preparing executives for interviews and press conferences
Lead the creation of internal press contact lists
File all deliverables in project management system
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree
At least ten years of experience in journalism and/or communications
Experience with or in the media field is required
Skills and Attributes:
Excellent oral and written communication skills; willingness to be coached
Excellent copy editing and proofreading skills
Meticulous attention to detail
A conversational, active voice writing style
Fluent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Knowledge of project management systems
Ability to work closely with executives
Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments
Team player with a high level of professionalism, self-motivation, ability to learn quickly, and a positive attitude
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across the department and organization
Other:
Position located in Washington, DC area.
Hybrid - 3 days in office (Mon-Wed. or Tue-Thurs.)
Some domestic travel required
