The Association of Food Industries, established in 1906, is the trade association for the U.S. food import industry. More than 1,000 companies – U.S. importers and foreign companies shipping to the U.S. – are members of the organization. The North American Olive Oil Association and the National Honey Packers and Dealers Association are sections within AFI and stand-alone associations as well. Other sections include a Nut & Agricultural Products section, a Processed Foods section, U.S. Associate members and Overseas Associate members. The focus of the association is compliance with U.S. regulations.
AFI is seeking a vice president of marketing/communications on our six-person staff to be located at our Neptune, N.J. location. Candidate, who will report directly to the association president – the association’s chief staff executive - should have prior association-related experience, with experience in sales and marketing a plus. When hired, the candidate will work with other staff members, members of the board of directors and members of various association committees. There also will be interaction with association members at association and industry events and when members reach out to the association for assistance. The AFI staff also manages the National Association of Flavors & Food-Ingredient Systems, the Chemical Sources Association and the Society of Flavor Chemists. This position can be a hybrid position but full-remote employment is not an option.
Key Responsibilities
Market association membership, association meetings, publications, etc.
Plan association events
Member communications
Create effective relationships with key players in the food industry and other organizations
Prepare minutes of board/committee meetings
Respond to member inquiries
Manage association’s social media presence
Some travel to association/industry events such as conferences and trade shows
Serve as Associate Director of NAFFS
Serve as chief staff liaison with the CSA
Develop and implement short- and long-term plans to meet organization goals and future growth
Qualifications
Strong interpersonal skills, leader, self-starter; bring energy and enthusiasm to the team
Effective written and verbal communicator, including ability to build and deliver presentations
Excellent customer service skills; willing to find creative ways to network & build customer base
Strong project management skills/attention to detail/ability to manage multiple tasks
Sales/marketing experience a plus, particularly in the non-profit field
Bachelor’s degree or other equal professional experience
Experience designing marketing materials
Ability to accept and evolve with changes in policies and procedures
