The Sales and Membership Engagement Manager will work with the NHA team to develop a strategy and lead a comprehensive consultative sales program.
Core responsibilities include working with current and previous customers, as well as prospective customers, in a consultative manner to understand each company’s marketing and promotional needs and to offer commercial solutions (exhibition, sponsorships, membership, etc.) to meet those needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the waterpower industry, the NHA membership, and the companies working in the industry.
Establish and nourish relationships with NHA member organizations, prospective member organizations, and the waterpower industry at large, with a special emphasis on the supply chain (providers of products and services).
Establish credibility and trust among the marketing, promotions, and business development decision makers at the above companies.
Provide exceptional customer service.
Learn and become effective in articulating (both written and oral) the value proposition for each solution NHA offers, which includes:
- Exhibit space and sponsorships for NHA’s Clean Currents tradeshow and conference
- Sponsorships for NHA’s Waterpower Week in Washington policy conference
- Sponsorships for NHA’s Regional Meetings (4 meetings throughout the year)
- Sponsorships of NHA’s POWERHOUSE media platform
Regularly and consistently connect with companies and organizations to understand their specific needs and present customized sponsorship offerings.
Work collaboratively with NHA’s membership director to identify and recruit potential NHA Members through the consultative sales process.
Develop and maintain contact information of customers and prospects in the NHA association management system.
Report and track sales-related activities in NHA’s association management database.
Create and maintain a weekly sales pipeline report.
Manage sponsorship inventory.
Work collaboratively with all NHA staff and contractors to conceive and create solutions to meet customers’ and prospects’ needs.
Cultivate and maintain awareness of relevant sponsorship trends and opportunities.
Compensation:
Base Salary: Competitive Salary
Performance-Based Bonus: up to 15% of salary

Qualifications
Skilled in providing an exceptional customer experience through written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to maintain positive communication and relationships with members, industry, staff, and all levels of management.
Creativity, diplomacy, and ability to navigate among competing stakeholders.
Excellent ability to balance multiple priorities, and to effectively communicate the status of projects.
Strong organization and self-management skills; highly self-motivated.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced setting.
Ability to consistently meet project deliverables and deadlines.
Ability to handle a variety of projects and multiple tasks while working with minimum supervision; excellent attention to detail, particularly with database entry and spreadsheets; and excellent proofreading and organizational skills.
Experience in and willingness to use a contact management database/customer retention system to manage prospects and sales activity.
Competent in use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in relevant professional field with a minimum of three years office experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working in a non-profit association environment is strongly preferred.
Experience working in the waterpower industry is a plus.
Experience in successful sales-related activities is preferred.
