AMR has a full-time remote opportunity available for an Executive Director with our client, The Academy of Communication in Healthcare (ACH).
ACH is the professional home for all those who are committed to improving communication and relationships in healthcare. The Executive Director is responsible for the following: provides strategic leadership guided by the organizational plan for ACH; implements policies set by the Board of Directors as well as annual goals and objectives including financial, program, and fund development; represents the organization at conferences, advisory groups, working groups, partner meetings, and in discussions with policymakers; provides the leadership and direction necessary to sustain the viability and influence of ACH and that strengthen AMR.
The Ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience successfully leading/managing an association and will provide professional experience in board and committee management, operations, finance, and the areas described in the key responsibilities below. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated knowledge of the healthcare environment, communication principles and will lead with a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) first approach with a strong commitment to relationship centered communication.

Membership

Goal Setting and Strategizing
Forecasts conditions, assesses member needs, and allocates resources appropriately.
Works with assigned clients to set annual and long-range strategic goals.
Develops strategies and programs to achieve annual and long-range strategic goals.
Assists the association in establishing association goals and ensures those goals are achieved with proper direction.
Board Relations
Assists the board in fulfilling its responsibility in leading the association.
Assists the association’s President in the fulfillment of responsibilities including: preparation of agendas and reports of meetings of the association’s leadership; serving as a spokesperson for the association; overseeing work of the committees and other volunteers; and achievement of the President’s specific initiatives through the association programs and activities that are part of the annual plan.
Informs officers and/or executive committee members of matters or developments that warrant their attention.
Identifies issues or policies that need officer and/or executive committee action before the next board meeting.
Participates in the monthly Executive Committee calls.
Participates in the twice a year, in-person Board meetings.
Serves as the main point of contact between the AMR staff and officers.
Serves as the primary staff liaison to the Leadership Development Committee (LDC) which manages the annual board of directors’ election process and the fellows program.
Ensures that officers have the assistance they need to fulfill their individual responsibilities under the bylaws.
Establishes and implements (upon approval by the association’s governing body) written Policy and Operating Procedures for the Association that reflect the current methods of conducting business.
Ensures appropriate insurance coverage is in place (Professional Liability and General Liability).
Client Financials
Ensures that all revenues and expenses are monitored against the established budgets.
Ensures there are adequate controls on all inventory, capital items, money, credit card transactions, and other financial transactions at association or company events.
Develops the draft annual operating budget for review and action by the Board.
Monitors monthly financial statements and drafts monthly financial memo prior to circulation to the Treasurer and Board of Directors.
Monitors the annual audit/review/Form 990 process.
Leads the fundraising efforts for the association including the development of diversified revenue streams, exploring grant opportunities, and the development of strategic sponsorship models.
Conference/Meeting Management
Ensures successful execution of conferences/meetings.
Provides positive experience for attendees, speakers, exhibitors, etc.
Ensures client expectations are met and/or exceeded.
Client Relations
Develops and maintains positive relationships between AMR and the client.
Directs, measures, and evaluates service quality and client satisfaction.
Ensures that all customer concerns are acted on and the results are being monitored; settles all concerns that have not or cannot be settled at a lower level.
Client Partnerships
Ensures relations with other organizations and entities are consistent with and advance the interests of the association.
Represents the association at affiliated organization events.
Manages client and AMR relationships with affiliated organizations.
Client Staff
Establishes procedures to ensure AMR Shared Services and direct reports meet goals and objectives.
Ensures the coordination of client service between and among departments.
Schedules, attends and participates in client services meetings.
Direct Reports
Ensures that all personnel actions are conducted within the AMR policies and procedures and in compliance with state or federal laws.
Evaluates the performance of direct reports (using the AMR evaluation procedure).
Serves as a mentor and coach while developing AMR team members.
Coordinates input for team hours worked; ensures the accuracy of this data, as it will be used to determine pricing policies and production measurements.
Establishes departmental procedures in alignment with AMR best practices and ensures that all employees are trained and aware.
Ensures that all direct report employees are properly trained in the use of Company equipment and tools in regard to proper work methods
Supervises a team of association professionals and ensures effective communication and evaluation of performance expectations, measures and results.
Assigns projects to subordinates as required; tracks progress to ensure these projects are completed in a timely and professional manner.
Contractual Obligation
Ensures that programs, activities, and services needed to fulfill the service agreement (contracts, workplans, expense fees and reimbursements, etc.) of the assigned association(s) are performed to meet AMR’s obligations in the annual workplan.
In accordance with AMR procedures and timelines, oversee the development of workplans for the next year of association work for review with the President & CEO and/or Executive Vice President.
Identifies and recommends services to expand the scope of work for the association and AMR.
Leads the effective, efficient, and profitable delivery of services to assigned client.
Assesses overall allocation of personnel to service client contracts.
Informs AMR President & CEO and/or Executive Vice President of any known or anticipated exceptions to expected outcomes on workplan commitments.
Best Practices
Remains current on the events in the association industry and the marketplace in order to take advantage of short and long-term opportunities.
Ensures the ethical and prudent operation of the Association and AMR resources.
Prepares and sends routine correspondence to customers and/or vendors to confirm agreements and/or understandings
Maintains customer and other company files (paper and/or electric) according to AMR records retention policies and timelines.
Maintains the company’s internal best practices and standard client service operating procedures.
Implements AMR written policy and operating procedures for each assigned client.
Maintains cordial customer, community, and public relations.

Proficient knowledge of Office 360/SharePoint and Microsoft Office Suites.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret manuals, legal documents, technical reports, professional journals, and industry/trade magazines.
Possess good written and oral communication skills, business math, and analytical skills.
Flexibility to accommodate the schedules of association leaders will be essential.
The position will require availability for some evening and weekend meetings and occasional travel for conferences and board events.
Training and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required
Healthcare or Healthcare Communication Education a plus
5+ years of association management experience, with at least three years in either an Executive Director or Associate Director position.
Must have experience and demonstrated success at creating and implementing diversity, equity & inclusion strategy and collecting and using data to assess effectiveness.
Demonstrated experience with fundraising for professional organizations preferred.
Demonstrated success in overall management of a membership-based organization.
Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification a plus
