The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, is seeking a public health professional with early childhood systems experience. This position will manage select AAP early childhood initiatives, including programs that catalyze communities and empower families to address early childhood drivers of health, and that support quality improvement (QI). In addition, this role will partner with the Director, Early Childhood Initiatives (ECI) and other AAP staff to design and implement early childhood strategies across target audiences such as pediatricians, home visiting programs, early childhood providers, and early nutrition services providers.
Some tasks include: 1. Manage assigned early childhood programs, supporting program development and implementation, stakeholder/participant engagement, and management of related project advisory teams. 2. Using needs assessment and other available data, guide the development of a suite of technical assistance opportunities that support knowledge improvement, skill development, and translation into practice across the health and education state systems. 3. Manage the data and tracking for ECI education and QI projects in compliance with Maintenance of Certification, Continuing Medical Education and Institutional Review Board requirements and per the direction of the project faculty and staff team. 4. Contribute to the development of QI change packages, design and implement action period webinars and learning sessions, and provide technical assistance to participating sites for assigned projects. 5. Manage the early childhood resource development process, working where appropriate with an advisory/editorial board, consultants, and AAP project team. Plan and conduct beta testing for resources and make recommendations for modification. 6. Plan and execute regular in-person and virtual meetings of project staff and advisory teams for assigned projects as needed. 7. Prepare presentations and publications for participants and project leaders highlighting achievements, success stories, and future directions for assigned projects. 8. Participate in the creation of early childhood project funding proposals, including project concept and logic model development, budget preparation, and program narrative writing as requested. 9. Manage assigned project budgets and monitor expenses and variances. Develop regular funding reports for project director. 10. Respond to inquiries and correspondence from program collaborators, AAP members and other physicians, allied health professionals, governmental agencies, higher education institutions and other organizations regarding program activities.
Qualifications needed: 1. Bachelor’s degree in early education, child development, mental health or related field required or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. Master’s degree preferred. 2. Two to three years’ in related public health coordination/management required, including working with early childhood systems and budget management. Experience in quality improvement, early relational health, grants management/writing, and the development and delivery of technical assistance, training, and educational resources and products for early childhood or public health initiatives preferred. 3. Excellent organizational, diplomacy, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills required. Must be outcomes-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, lead collaborative efforts across multiple organizations, adapt well to change, and assimilate information for a variety of target audiences. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; familiarity with collaboration site platforms (eg, SharePoint) and virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx) preferred. Some travel, evening, and weekend work required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians’ availability.
