Job Description
The position designs professional development programs for social studies/government teachers at the middle- and high-school level and implements the programs with ABOTA Chapters across the county.
Responsibilities:
Program Management and Marketing
Work with ABOTA Chapters nationwide to plan and produce ABOTA Foundation Civics Education programs for middle and high school social studies, history, and government teachers and students.
Oversee the marketing of the Foundation’s Civics Education programs to teachers, curriculum decision makers and administrators at the district and state levels.
Serve as staff liaison for the Civics Education Committee.
Assist chapters with securing program venues and speakers, marketing programs to teachers, and creating/putting together materials for the various programs.
Communicate program details to teacher attendees.
Classroom Resource Management and Development
Serve as liaison with the Foundation’s classroom resource partners.
Drive efforts to develop new classroom content in the areas of civics, social studies, and history.
Develop resources that align with the Foundation’s strategic plan.
Partnerships
Maintain existing and develop new partnerships with civic education organizations.
Maintain existing partnerships with other organizations, including bar associations, state departments of education, education organizations, colleges, schools and community organizations.
Communications
Promote the Foundation’s mission to educate youth about the right to trial by jury, judicial independence, and other civics concepts.
Maintain a network with civic education leaders throughout the country.
Maintain regular contact with the Civics Education Committee, chapters, Foundation Trustees and other audiences.
Provide editorial assistance for organization’s communications and publications efforts, including the Foundation Annual Report, Foundation updates, and the website.
Promotions and Outreach
Identify opportunities for recognition for the Foundation and its programs.
Coordinate the Foundation’s engagement with social studies organizations and professional education groups through sponsorships, conference exhibits, conference presentations and marketing opportunities at external events.
Fundraising and grants
Serve as staff support for the Grants Committee and other Foundation fundraising efforts as necessary.
Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, political science, history or other related field.
Professional Experience
Event planning experience.
Experience in educational program management and marketing.
Curriculum planning and design experience desirable.
Middle or high school teaching experience desirable (in civics, history, government, social studies, etc.)
Civics education knowledge and experience preferred.
History of working effectively with partner organizations.
Experience with fundraising and grant writing desirable.
Skills
Project management
Experience with or interest in event planning
Experience with using technology
Excellent communication skills.
Willingness to travel to National Board/Foundation Trustees meetings, civics education programs, and other events.
